Exports of dog or cat food put up for retail sale totaled $22.7 billion for 2022, outperforming the amount for exported animal feeds.
Year over year, animal feed exports grew by 8% compared to $19.8 billion for 2021.
The 5 biggest exporters of animal feeds are the Netherlands, United States of America, Germany, mainland China and Belgium. Combined, that quintet collected 47.7% of global sales from exported animal feeds in 2022.
Among continents, suppliers in Europe sold the highest dollar worth of exported animal feeds during 2022 with shipments valued at $13.2 billion or 61.5% of the animal feeds total. In second place were Asian exporters at 20.7% while another 10.5% of worldwide shipments for animal feeds originated from North America.
Smaller percentages came from Latin America (5.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, Africa (1.3%), and Oceania (0.5%) led by Australia and New Zealand.
For research purposes, the 6-digit Harmonized Tariff System code is 230990 for preparations used in animal feeding. That code excludes dog or cat food sold at the retail level.
