Not one of Spain’s fastest-growing import product categories posted a gain exceeding 100% from 2010 to 2014.

Overall, the average increase for all Spanish import products was 23.5% over that 5-year time frame.

Fastest-Growing Spanish Import Products

Listed below in descending order are the fastest-growing products imported into Spain. Also shown is the percentage increase in a product category’s imports for the 5-year period ending in 2014.

  1. Explosives, pyrotechnics: Up by 73.4% (US$59,447,000)
  2. Fertilizers: Up by 63.5% ($1,339,827,000)
  3. Raw hides excluding furskins: Up by 61.7% ($948,982,000)
  4. Other manufactured products: Up by 52.5% ($1,003,856,000)
  5. Sugar: Up by 51.5% ($1,182,762,000)
  6. Vegetable products: Up by 50.8% ($26,042,000)
  7. Manmade filaments: Up by 45.1% ($860,414,000)
  8. Coffee, tea and spices: Up by 42.2% ($1,338,662,000)
  9. Gems, precious metals, coins: Up by 40% ($1,605,010,000)
  10. Oil seed: Up by 39.6% ($2,818,196,000)


Prepared explosives, safety and detonating fuses, percussion or detonating caps and igniters were among the strongest items pacing explosives and pyrotechnics to its number one position as Spain’s fastest-growing import product category.

Spain importers also posted accelerating international purchases of nitrogenous mineral or chemical fertilizers.

Leather was the largest component behind increasing import purchases attributed to the raw hides excluding furskins product category.
