Exported baby clothes sold to customers around the world totaled US$10.1 billion in 2018. That dollar amount reflects an average -1.3% decline for all baby clothing shippers over the five-year period starting in 2014 when exported baby clothing shipments were worth $10.2 billion. From 2017 to 2018, the global value of baby clothing exports improved by 0.5%.

Exported baby clothing is organized under two major categories: knitted or crocheted garments (77.3% of the global total) and non-knitted and non-crocheted garments (22.7%). From a continental perspective, Asian exporters generated almost three-quarters (73.4%) of international sales of baby clothing. In second place was Europe at 22.8%. Smaller percentages originated from Africa (1.7%), Latin America (1.3%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, North America (0.8%), then Oceania (0.03%) led by Australia and New Zealand.

The 4-digit Harmonized Tariff System code prefix is 6111 for knitted or crocheted babies’ garments and clothing accessories (excluding hats) and 6209 for non-knitted and non-crocheted babies’ garments and clothing accessories (also excluding hats).

Those countries that posted declines in their exported knit or crochet baby clothing sales were led by: Thailand (down -43.4%), Indonesia (down -39.6%), Sri Lanka (down -36.5%) and Italy (down -34.3%).
