World’s Fastest-Growing Export Countries

Loading cargo onto airplane

Air cargo shipment

After analyzing 2018 data for exported goods by country, we found eight geographic entities that boosted the value of their shipments by over 200% since 2014. In descending order those exporters are Niue (an island country in the South Pacific Ocean), Kiribati (a state in the central Pacific Ocean), Haiti, Central African Republic, Micronesia, Guinea, Togo and Afghanistan.

From 2017 to 2018, the comparable number for the fastest-growing export countries shrinks to five: Liberia, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Togo and the maritime country in Southeast Asia called Timor-Leste or East Timor.

North American nations placed well down on the list of fastest-growing exporters from 2017 to 2018. Mexico finished 102nd among the top 200 exporters, United States in 123rd place with Canada positioned behind at 127th.

That slow year-over-year growth for North American exporters compares poorly with international competitors such as Vietnam (25th place for its 2017 to 2018 increase), Saudi Arabia (28th place), Nigeria (32nd place) and Russia (39th place).
