Countries Benefiting from Best Trade Surpluses for Pesticides
The following countries posted the highest positive net exports for pesticides during 2024. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the surplus between the value of each country’s exported pesticides and its import purchases for that same commodity.
- mainland China: US$8.2 billion (net export surplus up 15.1% since 2023)
- United States: $3.2 billion (up 5.7%)
- India: $2.6 billion (down -7.6%)
- Germany: $2.2 billion (up 7.7%)
- France: $1.5 billion (down -18%)
- Belgium: $1.1 billion (down -6.5%)
- Israel: $680.9 million (down -35.7%)
- Spain: $631.4 million (down -16.7%)
- South Korea: $579.1 million (up 17.7%)
- Singapore: $398.1 million (down -12.6%)
- Hungary: $341.5 million (down -38.2%)
- United Kingdom: $260.8 million (down -30.9%)
- Austria: $193.3 million (down -22%)
- Japan: $169.3 million (up 13.4%)
- Denmark: $100.3 million (up 184.5%)
World-leading pesticides supplier, mainland China, earned the highest surplus in the international trade of pesticides. In turn, this positive cashflow confirms strong Chinese competitive advantage for this specific product category.
Countries Experiencing Worst Trade Deficits for Pesticides
The following countries posted the highest negative net exports for pesticides during 2024. Investopedia defines net exports as the value of a country’s total exports minus the value of its total imports. Thus, the statistics below present the deficit between the value of each country’s imported pesticides purchases and its exports for that same commodity.
- Brazil: -US$4.3 billion (net export deficit down -2.1% since 2023)
- Canada: -$1.7 billion (down -8.8%)
- Australia: -$1.2 billion (up 9.6%)
- Ukraine: -$841.8 million (up 2.7%)
- Vietnam: -$827.4 million (up 14%)
- Mexico: -$639.4 million (up 0.6%)
- Argentina: -$601.8 million (up 10.3%)
- Thailand: -$582.7 million (up 9.7%)
- Russia: -$400.2 million (down -50%)
- Paraguay: -$383.2 million (up 23.2%)
- Philippines: -$373.6 million (down -0.9%)
- Romania: -$343.3 million (down -12.9%)
- Bangladesh: -$336.7 million (up 8.1%)
- Ecuador: -$327.8 million (up 3.7%)
- Peru: -$318 million (up 12.4%)
South America’s biggest country both in terms of population and land area, Brazil incurred the highest deficit in the international trade of pesticides. In turn, this negative cashflow highlights Brazil’s competitive disadvantage for this specific product category but also signals opportunities for pesticides-supplying countries that help satisfy the powerful demand.
