The 5 largest importers of potatoes are Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Italy and the United States of America. The 5 major buyers purchased over two-fifths (43.1%) of the world value for potatoes imported during 2024.
From a continental perspective, buyers in European countries bought the most imported raw potatoes during 2024 with purchases costing a total $5 billion or 66.3% of the global total.
In second place were importers located in Asia at 16.4% while 7.5% of potatoes imported worldwide was delivered to buyers in North America. Another 6.9% arrived in Africa.
Smaller percentages went to customers in Latin America (2.7%) excluding Mexico but including the Caribbean, then Oceania (0.3%) led by Fiji, French Polynesia and Samoa.
